TASTING NOTES

The name Girlan comes from the original site of Cornaiano, a village famous for wine production since the Middle Ages, located in the area of Bolzano and Lake Caldaro. An ambitious project with 23 partners, the Girlan winery honours its roots while also looking to the future. Gewürztraminer Aimè takes its name from the wine-growing village of Termeno, in the Bassa Atesina. The bunches are slightly red, the vines grow on light, warm soil on sunny, gentle slopes that are best expressed in the glass. The grapes are harvested by hand into small containers for transport to the production facility, and after a short maceration and pressing of the whole bunches, racking by natural sedimentation of the must takes place. Fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel vats, ageing on fine lees in stainless steel tanks without malolactic fermentation for 6 months. Gewürztraminer Aimè has an intense, aromatic bouquet; its full, smooth character calls for strong-flavoured dishes. We recommend pairing it with shellfish, full-flavoured cheeses and desserts such as strudel. Also interesting served with spicy or sweet and sour Asian-inspired dishes. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Girlan

The Girlan winery was established in 1923 in a historic 16th century farmhouse, led by founding president Johann Kofler Krautschneider. After many years of research and several micro-vinification trials, oenologist Gerhard Kofler recognised the unique potential of the Ganger vineyard in Mazzon and produced Vigna Ganger Mazzon Pinot Noir Riserva for the first time. Today, the Girlan Winery has 200 winegrowing members, spread over an area of 220 hectares for the cultivation of vineyards, in the best production areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. The wine recalls the terroir of the wide Adige Valley and the complex of all those geographical, geological, vegetative and climatic factors that make this wine area unique. The wine is called upon to reflect the traits of its land, expressing its provenance in the glass. The company's philosophy is based on the concept of sustainable agriculture, developing a sustainable production line in order to be able to produce high-quality wines of regional origin also in the future, revaluing the old South Tyrolean grape varieties (Vernatsch, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir) and creating characterful wines with international grape varieties (Chardonnay, Sauvignon). All of this is done in a way that respects the times of nature, allowing the wines to be transferred naturally and using advanced technology, while always taking care to safeguard the traditions of the past in the various production and fermentation processes. Name and address of producer/distributor: Cantina Girlan, Via San Martino 24, I-39057 Cornaiano (BZ). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
