Located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, between San Pietro in Cariano and San Floriano, the Venturini family business covers almost 12 hectares on hilly terrain. Valpolicella Ripasso Semonte Alto consists of a blend of Corvina 70%, Rondinella 25% and Molinara 5%. Obtained using the ancient Ripasso technique, according to which the vinified vintage wine undergoes a second fermentation at the end of winter on the undamaged Amarone marc for about 10 days, with daily pumping over. The wine is then transferred to wood, where it matures for 12 months in oak barrels, followed by bottle ageing for 6 months after bottling. Semonte Alto has a rather dense and bright ruby red colour. On the nose it initially offers spicy and roasted scents, then opens up to hints of dark fruit, such as blackberry and blueberry, liquorice and dried violets. The palate is taut, fresh and savoury, with tasty tannins that cleanse the palate and tempt you to another taste. Matured in medium toasted oak, Semonte Alto is intense and spicy, like the large barrels resting neatly side by side in the wine cellar. Semonte Alto is a wine with a strong character that accompanies juicy meat dishes, such as stewed rabbit or roast pork, with just the right energy. Another interesting pairing is soft cheeses with a flowery rind, such as a Brie.
