When we talk about Ornellaia we talk about wine, history, tradition and passion. Founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori, the winery later became part of the Frescobaldi group, which for over 700 years has contributed to the leadership of quality Italian enology. In the homonymous locality, in a small and wild slice of Tuscany, a perfect cradle has been created for the wines made from the Bordeaux cut. Tenuta Masseto is a magical place surrounded by woods and the influence of the sea breeze on hot summer days. It is a land blessed with the presence of a deep marine substrate, gradually becoming blue clay, which is reflected in the great intensity and velvety elegance found in Masseto. The Masseto winery is the concrete and monolithic symbol of this wine, as is the wall of huge rocks that marks the boundary of the estate. Designed by architects Hiraku and Zito, the building expresses and strengthens the identity of Masseto, concrete and powerful. In the estate we try to limit as much as possible any action on wine, the goal is just to capture the true spirit of nature and bring it to its highest levels. An extraordinary vineyard, tanks and barrels with a system of vinification by gravity. The bunches, collected by hand in 15 kg boxes, are manually selected on a double sorting table before and after destemming and subjected to soft pressing. The fermentation is carried out in cement tanks, while for small portions of the vineyards in barriques at a constant temperature between 25 and 30 kg vol. . Maceration times vary from 21 to 28 days, while malolactic fermentation began in 100% new oak barrels, keeping the various batches separated for the first 12 months of aging. Subsequently, the wines are assembled and stored in barriques for another year, for a total of 24 months. As usual, Masseto is left to age for another 12 months in bottle before being placed on the market. A dense and harmonious aromatic expression, the color is young and suggests a rich and intense wine, the nose shows a manual aroma of ripe cherry, violet, licorice and dark chocolate. The palate is broad and dense with velvety and refined tannins that envelop the palate, leaving a fresh and vibrant finish. It is a great wine that gives greater expressiveness if left to age for a long time. Great meditation wine. To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 16/18 ºC.
