The Gorgona project was launched in August 2012 as a collaboration between Frescobaldi and Gorgona, Europe’s only prison island. Here, inmates spend the final period of their sentences working in close contact with nature. Set around a small vineyard, in the heart of an amphitheatre overlooking the sea, the project began with the aim of enabling prisoners to gain practical, hands-on experience in viticulture, under the guidance and supervision of Frescobaldi’s agronomists and oenologists. Today, the vineyard covers two hectares, comprising an initial plot and a second one planted in 2015. From this vineyard of Vermentino and Ansonica comes Gorgona, the fruit of the uniqueness of the place and human labour, and a symbol of hope and freedom. The Gorgona label is intended to be the island’s special edition, revealing a different aspect of it each year. 100 ml: E=313 kJ/75 kcal
Gorgona Bianco has a straw-yellow colour with golden highlights; on the nose, it reveals Mediterranean notes of white and yellow flowers, with daisy, chamomile, hawthorn and mimosa coming to the fore. These are followed by hints of exotic fruit, passion fruit, mango and mandarin; on the palate, it is savoury yet long and fresh. It has remarkable persistence and intensity.
Gorgona Bianco is excellent paired with pasta in a vegetable sauce or with white meats.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 12–14°C.
