TASTING NOTES

Production

Frank Cornelissen’s Terre Siciliane Munjebel Rosso is produced on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in an extreme terroir characterised by lava soils, high altitudes and significant temperature variations. It is made primarily from Nerello Mascalese grapes, with possible small percentages of Nerello Cappuccio and other native Etna varieties, grown using the alberello method on mineral-rich volcanic soils. Viticulture follows a natural, non-interventionist approach, without the use of synthetic chemicals. Harvesting is done by hand and vinification involves spontaneous fermentation, without the addition of selected yeasts, fining or filtration. Ageing takes place in neutral containers such as fibreglass tanks or large vats, to preserve the authentic expression of the grape variety, the soil and the vintage.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Visually, it is a transparent ruby red colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it is deep, pure and strongly terroir-driven, with aromas of fresh red fruits, cherry and pomegranate, accompanied by floral notes, aromatic herbs, light spices and pronounced hints of lava rock, ash and smoke. On the palate, it is taut and elegant, with fine tannins, vibrant freshness and a distinct savouriness. The finish is long, dry and mineral, displaying great precision and character.

Occasion and Pairing

A wine of authentic and unconventional character, ideal for discerning tastings and for enthusiasts seeking wines with a distinct territorial identity. It pairs perfectly with white and red meats that are not overly structured, Mediterranean dishes, light game and medium-aged cheeses.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Frank Cornelissen

The Fratelli Alessandria winery is located in the province of Cuneo, in the best crus of Verduno and Monforte. With roots dating back to the early 1800s and historically known for its Barolo, it has belonged to the Alessandria family since 1870. A family-run business, today the owner is Gian Battista, who together with his wife and children is the bearer of a tradition that has lasted for centuries and an extraordinary passion for viticulture and winemaking. With its 12 hectares of vineyards, the company is known for the production of Piedmontese wines of great quality. Respectful of the land, with a boundless love for the Langhe and an eye always focused on the most modern technological innovations, Fratelli Alessandria produces wines that best express the particularity of the vines from which they come and their territories of origin. Nebbiolo is the predominant cultivation, but there is no shortage of grapes for the typical red wines such as Dolcetto, Barbera and the characteristic Pelaverga or two cases for whites such as Favorita and Chardonnay. The hand of those working in the winery is evident. The direct relationship that is ensured between man, the vineyards and the barrels ensures total respect for the local winemaking tradition and culture, as well as an attempt to excite the consumer at the moment of tasting. Name and address of producer/distributor: Fratelli Alessandria - Via Beato Valfrè, 59, 12060 Verduno CN. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
