The Frescobaldi winery is one of the most historic, important and renowned wine-producing estates in both Tuscany and Italy. This winery has a long history and remains one of the leading wine producers in the Tuscan wine scene, with a total of 1,200 hectares of vineyards spread across prestigious estates featuring historic residences and ancient castles. And it is on one of these wonderful estates, Castelgiocondo, south-east of the village of Montalcino, that Rosso di Montalcino Campo ai Sassi is produced. The Sangiovese vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of up to 300 metres above sea level, on fairly deep soils, which yield wines with a more fragrant profile, less structure and particularly subtle tannins. Once the harvest is complete, the grapes undergo traditional red wine vinification with a maceration period on the skins of around 18 days. The wine matures in oak barrels for 12 months and completes its ageing process with a few months in the bottle before being released for sale. The younger sibling of the more prestigious Brunello, this Rosso di Montalcino is its more approachable and youthful counterpart. E(100ml): 332 kJ/79 kcal
Characterised by a beautiful bright ruby red colour, complex on the nose with notes of red fruit and flowers, full-bodied yet fresh and fragrant. Well-balanced, with a lovely finish and easy to drink. A wine that can be enjoyed every day, although it can age well for several years in the cellar.
It is undoubtedly best paired with red meat dishes: grilled meat and flavourful game sauces.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.
