TASTING NOTES

The Calabretta winery is managed by Massimiliano, helped by his father Massimo, preceded by four generations with a long tradition among the vineyards. The company is located on the northern side of the volcano, more precisely in the municipality of Randazzo, in Sicily. This wine is made from the homonymous grapes 100% Nerello Mascalese, which are destemmed and crushed, with a spontaneous fermentation and maceration on the skins for 5 days in stainless steel tanks. Aging in 60/70hL Slavonian oak barrels for 60 months and in bottle for 12 months. Nerello Mascalese is an intense and velvety red wine. Warm, compact, full and robust, with smooth tannins and great finish. Nerello Mascalese Vecchie Vigne is a wine to be sipped slowly in company, excellent in combination with a mushroom risotto or with stewed red meat. THE WINERY

Calabretta

The Calabretta winery is preceded by a long tradition among the vineyards, with four generations in comparison that cultivate the land following the centuries-old customs of the imposing Etna. The company is located on the northern side of the volcano, in the municipality of Randazzo, and covers 12 and a half hectares of vineyards with old and new vines in a cultivation regime naturale. The cellar, inspired by the past and arranged on several levels, houses underground rooms necessary for long maceration. As in the vineyard, the processes in the cellar are completely natural: fermentation, precipitation and spontaneous clarification. Thanks to this care, the wines obtained awaken smell and taste, reviving aromas and flavors that belong to a memory almost disappeared of this sacred place.
