Maison Louis Roederer is one of the few wineries still run by the family. Founded in Reims in 1776, the company owns 240 hectares of property located between the Grands and Premiers Crus in the area of the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, the Côte de Blancs. Champagne Brut Collection 244 is a vision towards the future, a new ambition that led the Maison to write a new chapter in its history. The importance of attention to sustainable viticulture, respect for the raw material and the qualities of the terroir, climate change, are all aspects that Louis Roederer wanted to give a response through the creation of this exceptional cuvée. This 244 is the result of a blend of the Maison Louis Roederer with grapes from the 2019 harvest, which broke all the temperature records during some waves of torrid heat of rare intensity. Each time the Chef de Caves composes a new score, inspired by the shades of the year and adding the wines of the Réserve Perpétuelle and the reserve wines aged in wood. The Réserve Perpétuelle represents a significant percentage of the assembly of Collection, its point of balance and freshness; 36% for Collection 244. In parallel to Réserve Perpétuelle, 10% of wines from previous vintages and from young parcels of the domaine Cristal, aged in French oak barrels, were added to the blend. Aged for almost 4 years in our cellars, Collection 244 is a cuvée of great fullness, supported by the maturity of the year, the freshness of Réserve Perpétuelle and the complexity of the reserve wines aged in wood. It is a Champagne with a wonderful balance, with a power of great refinement, which marks the return of the Meunier that gives a caressing and fruity delicacy to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, more structured and savory. It is presented to the glass with a fine and persistent perlage with a broad aromatic bouquet of ripe yellow fruits, candied citrus, delicate white flowers. On the palate can be perceived smoky notes and slightly toasted pastry. This wine combines strength, intensity and potency with masterful maturity, deliciously balanced by freshness. Recommended as a wine to be uncorked on important occasions, it is also ideal as an aperitif with delicate appetizers. To fully appreciate its style, this Champagne should be served at a serving temperature of 10/12 ºC.
