TASTING NOTES

Bruno Gottardi's winery is one of the best known on the wine-growing scene for Pinot Noir grapes, located in the hills of Mazzon. Gottardi's Pinot Nero is one of the great expressions of Alto Adige and its most prestigious cru for Pinot Noir production. Altitude, perfect exposure to sun and good temperature ranges make this small plateau above Egna a true cru, encouraging grapes to ripen to perfect excellence. The best grapes are sent for fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with classic maceration on the skins. This wine ages for one year in barriques, one quarter new, and another 8 months in large barrels. Weingut Gottardi’s Pinot Nero guarantees a quality that best expresses the characteristics of a great terroir, historically suited for cultivating this grape variety originating in Burgundy. To the eye it is clear ruby red in colour with luminous reflections. An elegant and refined aromatic profile on the nose, with scents of raspberry, red currant, wild strawberries, hints of undergrowth and aromatic herbs, slight spicy sensations and a light touch of vanilla. Harmonious and smooth on the palate, medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a pleasant, delicate aromatic character. Persistent and fresh with full flavour on the finish. This Alto Adige Pinot Nero is ideal paired with red meat dishes or cheeses. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Bruno Gottardi

When it comes to Pinot Noir in Italy, the reference to the Gottardi winery is inescapable. In 1986, the Gottardi family acquired the first vineyard on the Mazzon hills, known as the paradise of Pinot Noir, and started making wine from their own grapes. After carefully restoring the rows of vines and building a modern vinification wine cellar, it was in 1995 that the first vintage was bottled, which immediately achieved very high levels of quality. Currently with around nine hectares of vineyards, the company is owned and managed by Alexander Gottardi, who has turned the high standards achieved in the past into a constant challenge for improvement and future developments. Between the rows of vines, the plants grow on soils rich in sandstone and limestone, enjoy a particularly favourable microclimate, and are cultivated with full respect for the environment, nature and the ecosystem. The altitude, the warm setting sun and the terroir make these hills an ideal place for the production of this variety. Mazzon Pinot Noir with its fragrant bouquet and unforgettable aroma has reaped countless critical and public successes and has been able to win the most coveted awards worldwide. Name and address of producer/distributor: Gottardi Alexander Waldemar 39040 Neumarkt-Mazzon (BZ). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
