TASTING NOTES

The Bel Colle winery was founded in 1974 on the Collina dei Castagni hill in Verduno, in the heart of Langhe. It was born out of the ideas and passion of brothers Franco and Carlo Pontiglione and Giuseppe Priola. This winery has always aimed to produce high-quality wines whilst respecting customs and traditional working methods. In 2015, it was acquired by the Bosio family, which updated the winery’s technology without turning its back on tradition: vinification in stainless steel and the ageing of noble red wines in large barrels of French and Slavonian oak. The Nebbiolo grapes used in the production of Barbaresco B'Aso come from some of the most important vineyards in the communes of Neive and Barbaresco, at an altitude of about 300 m above sea level, from typically marly soils that are rich in limestone and clay. Production volumes in the vineyard are kept very low so that the vines can concentrate as much as possible of the aromas and substances within the fruits, making the wine so valuable. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand to preserve the integrity of the raw material, and after fermentation in stainless steel barrels, it is aged for about 2 years in large wooden barrels, making this Piedmont red wine a heartfelt and learned expression of what a Barbaresco should be. Once inside the glass, the colour is garnet red with undertones of brick red. On the nose this wine expresses a rich, intense and complex aromatic profile, with notes of small red berry fruits, dried violets and a delicate spicy note. The ageing process also creates hints of leather and tobacco on the finish. In the mouth it is dense, powerful and assertive, with delicate tannins and a pleasant fresh and flavourful finish. This is a perfect wine for drinking with friends or family, enjoying with a rich Sunday lunch, paired with succulent red meat. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Bel Colle

In the beautiful setting of the Langhe, in Piedmont, lies the Bel Colle estate. Since 1974, its founders, the Pontignone brothers and their friend Giuseppe Priola, have aimed to bottle excellent wines, enhancing the tradition and uniqueness of the territory that hosts them. The Bel Colle vineyards extend in an area particularly suited to the production of Barolo, on a hill of chestnut trees. The plots are located between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, enjoying favourable exposure and microclimate that give the grapes an intense and persistent aroma. In 2015, the company was taken over by the Bosio family, who applied technological innovations to the production processes, while still respecting the values that have always been promoted by the Bel Colle winery. Large French oak barrels store the important reds for at least five years, before they are transferred to the bottle. Sipping Bel Colle wines one is enchanted by the garnet reflections and spicy yet delicate aroma, characteristics sought after by all lovers of Piedmontese red wines. Name and address of producer/distributor: Bel Colle - Via Castagni, 56, 12060 Verduno (CN). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
