TASTING NOTES

Frescobaldi is one of the most renowned historic wineries in Italy and the world, a milestone for the past and present of Tuscan wine. With centuries of history, more than 1200 hectares of vineyards, ancient houses and castles, as well as an avant-garde entrepreneurial vision, the Frescobaldi winery is a reference in the production of elegant wines and ancient charm. Located in a historic area for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Tenuta Calimaia lies on soft hills between the Val di Chiana and the Val d'Orcia. The vineyards arranged around the hill of the company, enjoy an altitude of 300 meters s.l.m. and are diversified by exposure and soil type, allowing you to enhance each vine cultivated. Nobile di Montepulciano consists of a blend of 90% Prugnolo Gentile grapes and 10% of complementary red grape varieties. Once harvested by hand, the grapes are vinified in steel and fermentation is conducted spontaneously. The maceration on the skins has favored a greater extraction of polyphenolic substances, with frequent pumping over and a malolactic steel. Aging takes place in French oak barrels for 24 months and ages in bottle for the next 4 months. Tenuta Calimaia Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has an intense ruby red color. The nose offers evident notes of red fruits: cherry and sour cherry at the beginning, followed by intense notes of aromatic herbs and spices, including sage, cardamom and pink pepper. On the nose the dark chocolate is accompanied by hints of licorice. In the mouth begins with its generous body, voluminous and fresh at the same time. The tannic texture is dense and free of harshness. The taste-olfactory correspondence is remarkable and the intense aromatic persistence is very long. Perfect with red meat roasts or mixed grills. To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 16/18 ºC. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Frescobaldi

With a history dating back to the Middle Ages, when Florence was the most important commercial and cultural crossroads in the modern world, the Frescobaldi family has been established as one of the leading wineries in Tuscany for centuries. The Frescobaldi vineyards cover a total of 1,200 hectares, spread over several estates, each with its own characteristic microclimate and terroir. The distinctive strength of this winery lies in the ability of its managers to enhance the diversity and uniqueness of the Tuscan territory. Agronomists and oenologists work together to cultivate the vines in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. Involved in this enterprise for 700 years, the Frescobaldi family has skilfully kept up with innovations, interpreting the most prized red wine labels with absolute mastery, including the Chianti, the Brunello di Montalcino and the Rosso di Montalcino. But all wines from the Frescobaldi winery contain a kaleidoscopic bouquet of aromas and flavours that give them an exceptional personality, perceptible at a glance.
