TASTING NOTES

Hofstatter is a historic Alto Adige winery, which operates using techniques that combine tradition with an ongoing quest for innovation. Given the exceptional quality of the wines it produces, this aim is easily achieved every year and gives a voice to this terroir’s authentic personality. The winery is headed up by Martin Foradori, heir to an ancient family of winemakers, who, thanks to careful and environmentally-friendly growing methods, creates red and white wines of enormous expressive power, offering balance and elegance. This Alto Adige red wine is a monovarietal made from Pinot Noir grapes grown on the Mazon plateau, on the east side of the valley of Termeno. Thanks to a unique microclimate, limestone clay and porphyry soil, and good aeration, the grapes stay dry and healthy. 75% of the grapes are de-stemmed, while 25% are poured intact into the barrels. Fermentation takes about 10 days with the must always in direct contact with the skins. After two rackings, this wine ages for a year in small oak barrels, before being blended and left to age for another 6 months in large oak barrels. The supply chain ends with bottle stabilisation, for another year. A Pinot Noir with good structure, yet marked freshness. This wine’s initial dense and deep ruby-garnet colour translates into extremely typical aromas of underbrush, small fruits and sweet morello cherries on the nose. Velvety on the palate, opening up after a few seconds into good depth and persistence. Perfect as the centrepiece with Sunday lunch, providing an elaborate accompaniment to red meat, game and aged cheeses. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Hofstatter

The Hofstatter Winery is a historical symbol of Alto Adige, guarded by the imposing walls of a 16th century building in the province of Bolzano. The Hofstatter vineyards stretch across the eastern and western sides of the Etschtal, finding a home on soils with different characteristics and microclimates. It was precisely because of this peculiarity that in 1987, for the first time in this region, they were able to introduce the designation “Vigna” for seven of their wines. Heir to an ancient family of winegrowers, Martin Foradori continues to pursue Hofstatter's core objective to this day: to harmonise the centuries-old, unique tradition of their land with an eye for innovation. In fact, the immense heritage of the Hofstatter estate has not precluded the use of modern technology to create a state-of-the-art winery, where new, low-energy concrete barrels are housed. The exceptional finesse of Hofstatter wines confirms that this goal is achieved year after year, yielding sublime examples of both whites, such as the renowned Gewürztraminer, and reds, such as Pinot Noir, that are recognised even beyond Italian borders. Name and address of producer/distributor: Hofstatter - Rathausplatz 7 - 39040 Tramin BZ. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
