TASTING NOTES

The wines produced by St. Paul’s wineries express the terroir from which they come; terroir is a concept that combines a wide range of factors such as climate, soil, exposure and various processes. St Pauls is one of the best wine-growing areas in Alto Adige; thanks to its slopes and hillsides, it offers grapes the perfect conditions for ripening. Pinot Nero Luzia is a monovarietal wine made from Pinot Noir grapes grown on very deep limestone-gravelly soils located on the San Paolo plateau at an elevation of about 350-500 metres above sea level. After harvesting, the grapes are transported to the winery where they are crushed. The wine then undergoes initial fermentation in stainless steel and then part ageing in large oak barrels and in barriques where it remains for several months. It is ruby red in colour with garnet reflections; ample and fruity on the nose, with hints of small forest fruits, cherries, plums, floral notes such as violets and spicy notes such as clove. Elegant, fine and intense on the palate, with velvety tannins. Perfect for everyday drinking or paired with red meats. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

St Pauls

Thirty-six farmers, united by a passion for wine and a love of their land, founded the St Pauls Winery in 1907 in the village of the same name in St Pauls, in the province of Bolzano. That group of friends has now grown to 200 winegrowing families who devote body and soul to the production of excellent South Tyrolean wines. St. Paul's vineyards have their origin on glacial soil at different altitudes-between 300 and 700 meters above sea level-embraced by the Alps. This particular location allows not only for different soil compositions, which can give peculiar characteristics to the grapes, but also for constant ventilation and climatic changes that promote excellent maturation. Therein lies the secret to the refinement of St Pauls wineries' wines: they encapsulate the unique notes of their terroir, resulting in reds and whites that are complex yet perfectly balanced between aromaticity, minerality and elegance. The Gewürztraminer is certainly a flagship of the production, made from selected grapes that give it fruit-rich and spicy notes. Name and address of producer/distributor: St Pauls -Via Castel Guardia 21, 39057 San Paolo/Appiano (BZ). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
