TASTING NOTES

The hilly exposure of Vigna Kolbenhof in the hamlet of Söll-Sella, above Tramin-Termeno, offers the ideal conditions for Gewürztraminer. This east-facing farm enjoys the morning sun and, thanks to the cool winds from the mountain above, it also benefits from an excellent temperature range. Careful selection in the vineyard ensures that only the grapes suitable for producing one of the best expressions of this varietal in Alto Adige actually reach the winery. Soft pressing is followed by vinification and fermentation in stainless steel. After this, the Kolbenhof wine ages for 8 months on fine lees, which are stirred weekly using the battonage technique. A white wine with great concentration and a deep yellow colour, which gives off hints of apricot and peach fruit salad on the nose surrounded by tropical fruit and irresistible lychee. Well balanced yet with noticeable body on the palate. It is never overpowering, thanks to the acidity that creates a level of balance. It can be enjoyed alone or as an aperitif with friends. When it comes to pairing, we would undoubtedly choose structured fish and shellfish dishes, or very spicy cuisine. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Hofstatter

The Hofstatter Winery is a historical symbol of Alto Adige, guarded by the imposing walls of a 16th century building in the province of Bolzano. The Hofstatter vineyards stretch across the eastern and western sides of the Etschtal, finding a home on soils with different characteristics and microclimates. It was precisely because of this peculiarity that in 1987, for the first time in this region, they were able to introduce the designation “Vigna” for seven of their wines. Heir to an ancient family of winegrowers, Martin Foradori continues to pursue Hofstatter's core objective to this day: to harmonise the centuries-old, unique tradition of their land with an eye for innovation. In fact, the immense heritage of the Hofstatter estate has not precluded the use of modern technology to create a state-of-the-art winery, where new, low-energy concrete barrels are housed. The exceptional finesse of Hofstatter wines confirms that this goal is achieved year after year, yielding sublime examples of both whites, such as the renowned Gewürztraminer, and reds, such as Pinot Noir, that are recognised even beyond Italian borders. Name and address of producer/distributor: Hofstatter - Rathausplatz 7 - 39040 Tramin BZ. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
