TASTING NOTES

The Bertani winery was founded in 1857 in Quinto di Valpantena, to the north of Verona in the heart of Valpolicella, by brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani. Today the company extends over more than 200 hectares of vineyards, divided into plots in the best positions in the province of Verona. Alongside more historical vineyards, there are newer parcels of land where the keyword is ‘respect’, so much so that an organic certification process is now underway for some of them. Secco-Bertani Vintage Edition is a tribute made by the winery to its own roots and history. It is in fact a faithful reproduction of the first wine produced in the 1930s, interpreted and produced with modern techniques. It is composed of the historical blend of the Bertani company: Corvina, Sangiovese Grosso, Syrah and Cabernet-Sauvignon. The grapes come from the vines that grow on the hills surrounding the historic site of Grezzana with soils naturally prevalent in calcareous marl, rich in iron. After being selected and harvested, the grapes are vinified involving long maceration on the skins and the wine is matured in traditional Veronese chestnut and cherry kegs of 750 litres for around 18 months. Visually, it is an intense and concentrated ruby red colour. On the nose, the principal aromas are those of small red and black berry fruits with some more balsamic and spicy notes afforded by the international grape varieties. On the palate it is full-bodied, warm and soft with elegant tannins that make it easy to drink. This Veneto red is perfect for any occasion, suitable for everyday use especially when paired with red meats. Read more Read less
LA CANTINA

Bertani

Renowned for the production of excellent Veneto wines, the Bertani estate is located in Quinto di Valpantena, near Verona. The founders, Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, combined enthusiasm and a pioneering spirit to produce fine, bold wines, thanks also to the French techniques of Professor Guyot, as learnt by Gaetano. With its two cellars and vineyards in the Valpantena Classica area and its estates in the Soave and Lake Garda areas, Bertani was one of the first Italian companies to promote the bottling of wine, with investments and advanced viticultural and winemaking production techniques. All while respecting the terroir and local culture. The recognition of excellence dates back to 1923, with the approval of the royal family. The more than 200 hectares of vineyards include the two historic Grezzana wine cellars, for vinification and bottling, and Tenuta Novare, near Arbizzano di Negrar. From these estates come two of Veneto's most sought-after red wines, Valpolicella Classico Superiore and Amarone, icons of the area. But production does not stop there: renowned white wines such as Soave also come from the Bertani estate. Name and address of producer/distributor: Bertani - Via Asiago, 1 - 37023 Grezzana VR. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
