TASTING NOTES

Damijan Podversic is an authority on orange wines. He started viticulture on his estate in the Collio region of Gorizia at a very young age and was soon successful. A pupil of the legendary master Josko Gravner, Damijan produces wines that are an expression of the grape and this land, characterised by long macerations, according to the traditions of the area. Damijan's Venezia Giulia Malvasia Istriana is made from 100% Malvasia grapes. Fermentation takes place in the presence of the skins in oak vats for 60-90 days and it matures in the bottle for around 1 year. All its beauty is released in a succession of spicy and herbaceous aromatic notes such as tomato leaf and green pepper. In the glass it is golden yellow with hints of ripe yellow fruit as well as candied citrus notes with an elegant mineral nuance. In the mouth it is fruity, soft and supported by a nice acidity on the finish. Malvasia Istriana is an excellent pairing with fish dishes. Ideal with seafood risotto, spaghetti with clams and stewed fish dishes. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Damijan

Damijan Podversic, supported by his wife Elena, has managed to fulfil his childhood dream of producing great grapes varieties to create a great wine. The most important vineyards of the Damijan winery, in addition to the small parcels scattered in the Collio, are located on the wooded slopes facing south of Monte Calvario, on the outskirts of Gorizia, in an uncontaminated environment that is perfect for growing healthy and tasty grapes. Conceived from Damijan's desire to enhance the old abandoned vineyards on a terroir perfect for viticulture, the winery now has six hectares covered with vineyards, respectful of the ecosystem in which it operates. The viticulture practiced by Damijan is rigorously organic, fully attentive to the balance and health of the plants and to safeguarding the surrounding area. From the lands of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, cultivated with passion by the winemakers of the Damijan winery, varied and typical wines of the area are created, such as Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Friulano. Name and address of producer/distributor: Damijan - Via degli Eroi, 33, 34170 Gorizia GO. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
