TASTING NOTES

Corte Sant'Alda is a splendid Veneto winery nestled in the Valpolicella area, in Valle di Mezzane, one of the most beautiful in the province of Verona. An area that has always been considered fertile due to the abundance of water, numerous rivulets and streams that made flourishing agriculture possible and favoured settlements. In 1983, Marinella Camerini, a talented interpreter of Italian oenology, started the production of wines with her family, following artisanal, biodynamic, and sustainable practices in vineyards which today cover 20 hectares of land with soils rich in calcareous deposits. Respect for nature and the utmost attention to the balance of the ecosystem are combined with innovation and experimentation: barrels of different woods, concrete tanks, fibreglass and amphora. All grapes have organic certification and are harvested by hand at the optimal time of maturation, with several passages through the vineyards, and fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in 40 hl oak vats. Ripasso della Valpolicella Campi Magri is composed of 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone and 20% Rondinella, hand-picked from selected vineyards in Val di Mezzane. After pressing, the first fermentation starts spontaneously, while the second takes place after February with the passage of the Amarone marc for 6 days. It matures for 2 years in 25 hl cherry barrels and offers unique moments on the palate: intense, almost impenetrable ruby red, with notes of cherry, ripe plum and a pleasantly spicy finish. It is a warm, balanced, complex and harmonious wine, but also very elegant with a persistent flavour. This is a very versatile wine that goes well with first courses with meat ragu, as well as with platters of semi-mature cheeses and cured meats, but also with roasts. Read more Read less
