TASTING NOTES

Villa Spinosa is one of Valpolicella's most historic wine cellars, located in Negrar in Valpolicella in the heart of the region. The company traces its roots back to the 1700s, but it was at the beginning of the 1900s that it began to produce prestigious wines, following the recovery of vineyards and the renovation of cottages. The wines of Villa Spinosa are the result of intense and constant work in the vineyard and from carefully studying and selecting the vineyards to use. The staff works on 20 hectares divided into three grand crus: Jago, Figari and Costa del Buso. Each cru encapsulates and expresses a unique micro-terroir. In the wine cellar, operations are carried out with care and know-how that have developed over the course of more than a hundred years. Villa Spinosa has always and consistently produced some of the most interesting wines of Valpolicella and its Amarone can reach twenty years of ageing. Villa Spinosa Ripasso Jago is named after the cru of origin, Jago. Located in Negrar della Valpolicella and planted by the Guglielmi ancestors in the 19th century. One of the most important in the company. Born from a blend of mostly Corvina and Corvinone. Harvesting is done by hand with careful selection of the grapes. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and use of the Ripasso technique, i.e. second fermentation of Valpolicella wine on the marc of Amarone or Recioto. Finally, the wine is aged in barrels for 12 months and in Slavonian barrels for 12 months. Ruby red in colour, it reveals intense aromas of fermented morello cherries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and sour cherries on the nose. Aromas of spices such as liquorice and cinnamon and menthol notes. In the mouth, the tannins are velvety, the structure is soft and the verticality adds to its drinkability. A Veneto red to open every day with traditional Italian red meat dishes. But also with white meats and mature or semi-mature cheeses. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Villa Spinosa

In the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, the land of Amarone, lies the Cantina Villa Spinosa, a winery that has sought to express the value of the surrounding territory in its wines over the years. The rustici di Jago, which are located alongside the core of the farm, probably dating from around the 18th century, represent the rural tradition of Valpolicella, built using authentic tufa stone. The surrounding area, ideal for viticulture thanks to its climate, exposure and soil composition, play a fundamental role in making Amarone, as well as the other precious red wines from Veneto, a wine renowned for its quality throughout the world. Villa Spinosa offers a panoramic view of the vineyards and picturesque landscape of Valpolicella, recalling the Veneto tradition in its architecture. With the aim of preserving and safeguarding the heritage of the Veneto region, Villa Spinosa takes care of the vineyards, implementing traditional and typical techniques to convey the uniqueness and love for the surrounding area. Name and address of producer/distributor: Villa Spinosa - Via Jago dall'Ora, 14, 37024 Negrar di Valpolicella (VR).
