TASTING NOTES

The Bertani winery was founded in 1857 in Quinto di Valpantena, to the north of Verona in the heart of Valpolicella, by brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani. The latter had benefited from a long learning period at Professor Guyot's school in France. Since then, tradition and innovation have always gone hand in hand and have led the company to be one of the benchmarks for the production of great wines locally and nationally. Today the company extends over more than 200 hectares of vineyards, divided into plots in the best positions in the province of Verona. Alongside more historical vineyards, there are newer parcels of land where the keyword is ‘respect’, so much so that an organic certification process is now underway for some of them. When we talk about Soave, we are talking about the history of Italian white wines. In fact, it was the first wine to be recognised as ‘typical and esteemed’ back in 1931. Soave Classico Vintage Edition by Bertani draws upon this tradition, with workmanship which makes it the embodiment of historicity and quality. The monovarietal wine is produced from the exclusive vinification of Garganega grapes grown in volcanic soils on the western slope of the Soave hillside. Some of the grapes, around 40%, are harvested in September and are vinified using the white fermentation method. The remaining grapes are harvested at the end of October after a careful selection of the bunches of grapes. They are vinified using fermentation on the skins, as was done in the 1930s. The two resulting wines are then blended and aged for around 12 months in cement. The end-product is straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, this wine is rich and complex with notes of peach, pear, apricot, and gooseberry balanced out by the flavoursome mineral undertone of volcanic soils. On the palate, this wine is full-flavoured and mineral-tasting while remaining soft and persistent. It is a perfect Veneto white wine for any occasion and for everyday use. Its characteristics make it ideal for pairing with fish-based dishes and shellfish. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Bertani

Renowned for the production of excellent Veneto wines, the Bertani estate is located in Quinto di Valpantena, near Verona. The founders, Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, combined enthusiasm and a pioneering spirit to produce fine, bold wines, thanks also to the French techniques of Professor Guyot, as learnt by Gaetano. With its two cellars and vineyards in the Valpantena Classica area and its estates in the Soave and Lake Garda areas, Bertani was one of the first Italian companies to promote the bottling of wine, with investments and advanced viticultural and winemaking production techniques. All while respecting the terroir and local culture. The recognition of excellence dates back to 1923, with the approval of the royal family. The more than 200 hectares of vineyards include the two historic Grezzana wine cellars, for vinification and bottling, and Tenuta Novare, near Arbizzano di Negrar. From these estates come two of Veneto's most sought-after red wines, Valpolicella Classico Superiore and Amarone, icons of the area. But production does not stop there: renowned white wines such as Soave also come from the Bertani estate. Name and address of producer/distributor: Bertani - Via Asiago, 1 - 37023 Grezzana VR. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
