TASTING NOTES

The Castelli Martinozzi company is located in an ancient 14th-century villa ten kilometres south of the centre of Montalcino, boasting an area of 160 hectares, 12 of which are vineyards and 16 are olive groves. The winery, which has been run by the same family for several generations, exclusively produces wines with the traditional Montalcino character from vineyards located between the Val d’Orcia and the border with Maremma. Here, perfect environmental conditions such as the ideal exposure and good ventilation allow the grapes to develop and ripen in the best possible way. Rosso di Montalcino di Castelli Martinozzi comes from the estate’s most temperate vineyards. Produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, it differs from Brunello through its shorter ageing period of two years, when it rests in large Slavonian oak barrels. This Tuscan red wine is characterised by its extraordinary drinkability. A bright ruby red in colour, this Rosso di Montalcino has spicy and blood orange notes on the nose that return consistently on the palate together with an acidity and freshness that define its distinctly Tuscan character. This is the perfect wine for convivial, carefree drinking. It is ideal for accompanying traditional Tuscan cuisine and is at its best in a pairing with cured meats and with strongly flavoured dishes such as trippa alla fiorentina or a lampredotto sandwich. THE WINERY

Castelli Martinozzi

Cesare Castelli, his daughter Cristina and grandson Federico run the family-owned Castelli Martinozzi estate with passion and devotion. The winery is located ten kilometres from Montalcino, in a position overlooking the Orcia valley and the hills that mark the border of the Maremma area of Tuscany to the west. Dominating the 160 hectares of the family's property, amidst vineyards, olive groves, woods and cultivated fields, is an old building of timeless beauty: the Fattoria Villa San Restituta, the emblem of Castelli Martinozzi. The farm's various buildings are testament to the activities to which the company has dedicated itself over the years. In addition to the cellars in which Brunello still completes its ageing cycle, you can see a granary, a small stable, the carpentry workshop, wood ovens, a mill: all components of a family-run but well-structured farm, over which stands an 18th-century bell tower, marking the passing of time. The Fattoria Castelli Martinozzi is considered "Locus Optimus" for red wine: the exposure of the terroir, the absence of fog and good ventilation create a microclimate that guarantees excellent vintages. Name and address of producer/distributor: Castelli Martinozzi - Villa Santa Restituta 104, 53024 Montalcino SI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
