TASTING NOTES

The Antinori family is among the most important wine families in Italy. Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Arte dei Vinattieri in 1385 and since then Antinori’s future has always been tied to the production of Italian wines. In that time, it has shown that Tuscany and Umbria can produced wine of the highest quality. In recent years, the family has moved outside these regions to open new wineries in the New World. Villa Antinori came about in 1928 when Niccolò Antinori, Piero Antinori’s father, named the wine after the villa so it reflected the family and its Tuscan and Chianti roots. The Villa del Cigliano, the Antinori residence since 1546 when Alessandro di Niccolò Antinori became the building’s owner, is depicted on the label. Located in San Casciano in Val di Pesa among the rolling Chianti Classico hills, the house is where successive Antinori generations have lived, a constant symbol of the family and their wine-making history and experience. Villa Antinori remains a place of experimentation, a way of making wine that reflects the land as well as innovation, with an eye towards the future but also the present, steeped in history. The Chianti Classico Villa Antinori is a dry red wine made from Sangiovese grapes and a blend of international grapes, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The grapes are harvested by hand. In the winery we proceed with the pressing and destemming, the must is then fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine is stored in French, Hungarian and American oak barriques for ageing and that intense ruby red colour. On the nose it is deep with strong notes of blackberries, blueberries and blackcurrants. This is followed by a sweet spice and almond finish. Round and soft in the mouth with smooth tannins and a great structure. Perfect everyday with meat-based first and second courses. Ragù, game and beef steak. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Villa Antinori

Founded in 1928 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori, Antinori wines became the symbol and expression of the Antinori family identity. Villa Antinori is a combination of tradition and evolution, constantly striving for quality and excellence. This philosophy has resulted in fine wines: Villa Antinori Rosso and Villa Antinori Bianchi. The Villa Antinori as Chianti Classico was born in the same year, a wine chosen by Niccolò Antinori to represent the Tuscany identity, which has since been found in the most prestigious wine cellars of embassies, renowned restaurants and hotels. The design on the label depicts Villa del Cigliano, a symbol of the Tuscan territory, linked to the family. In this region with a historical connection to Chianti Classico, a place where tradition and innovation coexist in perfect harmony, Villa Antinori reveals the past, present and future of the Antinori family. The winery was built with locally sourced materials to safeguard the Tuscan territory and landscape. Name and address of producer/distributor: Villa Antinori - via Cassia per Siena, 133 Loc. Bargino, 50026 (FI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
