TASTING NOTES

The Allegrini family has been involved in wine production for over four hundred years, on an area covering 240 hectares, between Tuscany and Veneto, playing a significant role in the development of Valpolicella and contributing to making it a privileged cradle of great reds. It was in 1854 that the winery was set up in Fumane, and it has been managed by generations of the same family ever since. In 1989 Corte Giara was born, an innovative project created together with a select group of winemakers to enhance the wine heritage of the Veneto region by including international varieties, and offering high-value wines for everyday consumption with a simpler approach. They are wines that are true to their roots but have a modern, eclectic and elegant appeal. Soft flavours for everyday enjoyment: excellent combination of quality, price and service. Amarone della Valpolicella is made from Corvina Veronese (70%) and Rondinella (30%) grapes which are picked from 30-year-old vines grown on a hillside area. Harvesting is carried out by hand in mid-September, after which the grapes are stored in drying lofts for about 3 to 4 months to over-ripen. Pressing and fermentation take place in mid-January, followed by 5 months of aging in stainless steel and 15 months of maturation in wood (half in Slavonian oak barrels and half in second-use barriques), before the final ageing for 6 months in bottles. This wine is an intense, multifaceted ruby red and releases bags of overripe, pulpy red berry fruits on the nose, delivering light spicy hints of pepper, clove and tobacco on the finish. Ample, enveloping and velvety, with a solid, imposing body, balanced acidity and sweet, delicate tannins, this Amarone is perfectly balanced and persistent. This wine offers many versatile pairings as it goes well with braised meats, game, orange duck, and very mature cheeses, but also releases emotions when opened as a meditation wine.
