The mission of the Bastianich winery is to understand the history and culture of the land and take it to a new level, creating unique wines that speak of place, but, at the same time, show remarkable power and balance. The Friuli Venezia Giulia region is located in the northeastern corner of Italy. The Bastianich winery consists of 28 hectares, all of whose vineyards are located in the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC in two distinct areas. Ponca is the defining element of this hilly territory of Eocene origin, Collio precisely, consisting almost entirely of clay marl alternating with layers of sandstone (calcified sands). The winery established in 1997 grows both native and allochthonous varieties, seeking to create unique wines that speak of terroir. Venezia Giulia Friuliano Plus is a white wine from Friuli made from a careful selection of Friulano grapes obtained from a single vineyard that is around 70 years old located on a hilltop with excellent exposure. This wine is the harvest of two different vintages. The first is from ripe grapes which are then fermented after a 36-hour decantation. The second, later harvest, on the other hand, takes place in several passes and with at least 50 percent botrytised grapes that are pressed immediately. After decanting is finished, the decanted must is started in a slow fermentation. Then filtered, it is placed in stainless steel tanks for 7 months before blending with the first part harvested. After bottling, the Plus ages in the bottle for 1 year before release. Golden yellow in colour, on the nose it releases notes of ripe pear and candied fruits. On the palate it is enveloping and intense with a strong aftertaste of ripe fruit. Perfect for Sunday lunch, it goes exceptionally well with white meats such as rabbit and/or pork.
