TASTING NOTES

When we talk about Ornellaia, we’re talking about wine, history, tradition and passion. Founded in 1981 by the Marchese Lodovico Antinori, the winery subsequently became part of the Frescobaldi group, which has been a leader in quality Italian oenology for over 700 years. In a plot of the same name, situated in a small and wild part of Tuscany, there is an estate that’s perfect for Bordeaux blends. Bolgheri Rosso Le Volte is a dry red wine produced by Ornellaia. The Bolgheri Rosso Le Volte grape cluster reach full ripening thanks to the maritime climate: during the warm summers, the maritime winds cool the vineyards and the olive groves owned by the company, while in the winter months, the hills provide shelter from the cold weather. This wine is made up of a blend of international varieties and native Tuscan varieties: 70% Merlot, 15% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition to being painstakingly selected, the grapes of each variety are vinified separately in stainless steel containers. They are then aged for 10 months partly in barriques previously used for the maturation of the fine wine Ornellaia, and the rest in concrete containers. The result is a wine which has an intense ruby colour in the glass. On the nose, notes of red berries such as blackberries and raspberries, are released, with floral tones of red rose and spices, including black pepper and a slight hint of vanilla. Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is located a short distance from the village of Bolgheri, Tuscany. Of all the wonderful farms in the region, this is perhaps the only one to stand on land praised by one of the greatest Italian poets of the 20th century: In fact, Giosuè Carducci had written a poem about the monumental cypress avenue that leads right to the Bolgheri area and the gentle contours of the hills dotted with vineyards. The area's enduring charm and privileged terroir location has motivated the work of the winery, which is driven to do more and more to produce Tuscan wines that live up to their provenance. A work marked by passion and love for the land and its unique characteristics, which was accompanied by a meticulous study of the latest technologies and techniques. Selective harvesting done by hand, microvinification and storage ageing lead to a flawless end result, perfect in every detail and rich in character.
