Tenuta San Guido was born from the intuition of one man, Mario Inciso della Rocchetta from Piedmont, who found the Tuscan environment to be the ideal place for planting his Cabernet cuttings. A lover of red wines from the chateaux of Bordeaux, he decided to create wines from the Bordeaux blend on his estate. Thanks to the particularly stony soils and the influence of the sea which mitigates the winters and cools the summers, he decided to cultivate varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, which found the ideal place in which to grow. The ageing also follows the practices of Bordeaux: the wine matures for several months in small wooden barrels, or barriques, achieving balance, harmony and acquiring a particular softness. Guidalberto Toscana IGT is a blend made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The alcoholic fermentation occurs without the addition of selected yeasts, but only with indigenous yeasts, and then it is aged for 15 months in French and partly American oak barriques. In the glass, Guidalberto has a bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it immediately expresses the crisp red fruit of the Merlot, followed up with notes of coffee and aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub. On the mouth, it is full, with dynamic tannins despite the ageing and a freshness which invigorates the palate. Perfect for Sunday lunch, it goes well with red meat.
