TASTING NOTES

It was 1964, when Lodovico Montresor welcomed Professor Vescia from the University of Brescia and engineer Turlini into the family villa in Peschiera: two of his friends with whom he shared an idea to put into practice: giving a geographical location to a wine known since the time of Catullus and produced with Trebbiano of Lugana, called here Turbiana. So when we talk about the Ottella winery, we are also talking about the history of Lugana as they came about hand in hand from the same hands. The company acquired a new impetus in the mid-eighties, when the son Francesco Montresor, fresh out of law school, joined his father; in 1993 the other son Michele also joined. Ottella is today a company with 90 hectares in Lugana, to which 20 hectares have been added in Valpolicella, on the magnificent hills of Romagnano in Valpantena and continues to mark the history of Lugana. Ottella's Lugana DOC is a Veneto white wine from 100% Turbiana (Trebbiano di Lugana) grapes from vineyards located in San Benedetto di Lugana; the grapes come from the most suitable vines on the property due to the high content of white clay. The harvest takes place in the second half of September, and is done manually. Fermentation is slow at controlled temperature (14°/18°); the ageing 5 months on fine lees and yeasts. With a clear and brilliant straw yellow colour, on the nose, it reveals notes of ripe and tropical fruit, candied fruit and flint. It is soft, warm, persistent and mineral in the mouth. A wine for every day, perfect for an aperitif even if it is best paired with shellfish and fish. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Ottella

As a book on the history of Venetian wines testifies that, the Montresor family, owners of the Cantina Ottella, were among the best producers of Lugana as early as 1905. Since 1964, Lodovico Montresor has been working to give this important white label a strong and recognisable identity, which led to the creation of the specific designation a few years later. Situated in a region that is particularly well suited to viticulture, the Ottella vineyards extend across an area of glacial origin, whose clay and limestone soils are the result of centuries of debris accumulation. Extreme care is devoted to each vine, for which a double-arched implant system is preferred. A ventilated microclimate gives the final touch to the grapes, promoting the growth of excellent, healthy grapes. At the Ottella Winery, the fruit is processed in the most natural way possible, emphasising the flavour with very few ingredients, to make simplicity an added value. The Ottella wines obtained encapsulate all the essence of the soil in which they are grown, releasing mineral notes that are intriguing on the palate. Name and address of producer/distributor: Ottella - Loc. Boschetti, 37019 San Benedetto di Lugana, 37019 Peschiera del Garda (VR). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
