TASTING NOTES

Etna Rosso Riserva comes from the district of the same name located on the northern slope of Etna, known as the most suitable for high quality production. More precisely we are in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, 650 metres above sea level. Etna Rosso Riserva is made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes. The Riserva comes from the oldest company vineyards, whose grapes are vinified in wooden vats where they macerate for about 15 days. After racking, the wine is left to decant in a cement tank, until it becomes clear, before being decanted into French oak barrels. A long ageing process then begins, leaving the wine in the same barrel for 3 years. The wine is then decanted into a concrete tank for another 6 months before being bottled. The product is a perfect synthesis of the magnetism of Etna, where patience and time are needed for success. In the glass it has an intense ruby red colour, typical mineral notes on the nose, with evident hints of red fruits like morello cherry, caper, seaweed and red mulberries. In the mouth it is crisp, fresh and surprisingly sapid, long and full-flavoured. Well-structured and with definite longevity. Wine with an intense and spicy aroma, which goes well with roasts, stews and meats. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Tornatore

The beginning of vine cultivation along with the production of wine by the Tornatore family dates back to 1865 when the great-grandfather of the current owner took up farming. In 1910, Giuseppe, the current owner's grandfather, built a house with an adjoining millstone in the Piano Fiera district with an adjoining 2 hectares of vineyard, to which a further 2 hectares were added on the northern slope of Etna in the Piano Felci district at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level. The Tornatore family has always had a detailed knowledge of the territories of the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, since grandfather Giuseppe and uncle Giovanni were appointed cadastral surveyors in the early 1930s, accompanying the topographer to survey parcels, to define boundaries and names of districts. A family, therefore, with deep roots in its territory of origin, which has never neglected its attachment to and respect for it and its traditions in successive generations. Name and address of producer/distributor: Azienda Agricola Tornatore - Via Pietramarina, 8A - CAP 95012 Castiglione di Sicilia. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
