Maison Louis Roederer is one of the few wineries that are still family-run today. Founded in Reims in 1776, the winery has 240 hectares of land located between the Grands and the Premiers Crus in the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte de Blancs areas. Champagne Brut Cristal is the wine of Tsar Alexander II, the most famous of the Maison’s wines first created in 1876. The idea of producing this cuvée was born out of the Emperor’s request to Louis Roederer to reserve the Maison’s best cuvée each year, which he particularly enjoyed. In order to enhance the uniqueness of this exceptional Champagne, a flat-bottomed crystal bottle was specially created, bearing the name of this precious material, which enhances its transparency and luminosity. Produced only in the best vintages when its balance is perfect, Champagne Cristal is made of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Delivering remarkable balance, it is aged in the wine cellar for 6 years and rests for 8 months after disgorgement. A wine that ages wonderfully, in the glass it displays a golden colour with luminous reflections and a fine, regular perlage. It has a complex aromatic profile with notes of juicy, ripe yellow fruits, citrus peel and lightly toasted nuts. On the nose it reveals notes of honey, with savoury hints; the fine, marked tannins reveal a youthful, ample mouthfeel with a long, saline finish. Champagne Cristal Brut is a great meditation wine, to be enjoyed on special occasions.
