TASTING NOTES

The Altesino estate is located in north-eastern Montalcino. The estate takes its name from Palazzo Altesi, the estate home owned by the Gnudi Angelini family since 2002. In the seventies Altesino introduced important innovations that changed the way Brunello wines are produced, such as the concept of "cru" (with Montosoli) and the first experiments with barriques. The artisan management of the grapes, a scrupulous selection during the harvest and the attention to detail are the trademarks of Altesino. The cellar is functional and innovative, built using sustainable architecture techniques, with a very low environmental impact and in full harmony with the surrounding area. The company covers a total area of about 100 hectares, including 50 hectares of vineyards. As well as the Sangiovese variety, the company also grows other grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Charnonnay and other native and non-native varieties. Altesino’s Brunello di Montalcino is a Tuscan red wine, and is produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes that ferment traditionally, and are then aged for over 4 years in wood and 2 years in oak. A subsequent refinement in the bottle for 4 months follows. Ruby red in colour with slight garnet reflections, it has an intense aroma with hints of violet and pleasant notes of undergrowth. The mouthfeel is dry, intense and full-bodied with a tannin that is elegant but still packs a punch. A full-bodied wine that is not too heavy for a pleasant family lunch, paired with a succulent cut of veal. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Altesino

In the heart of southern Tuscany, among the gentle contours of the hills and fragrant vines, there remains an intact and largely wild landscape: Montalcino. Even today, the name alone is a true synonym for quality Tuscan wines, rich in tradition and character. In this area, in fact, tradition imposes a deeply respectful relationship between man and nature: this has contributed to keeping the charm and uncontaminated magic of the entire area intact over time. It is no great surprise therefore, that the entire area has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, precisely because of its precious biodiversity, and takes its visitors' breath away. There is a special relationship that links Montalcino and its wines: a relationship built on tradition and innovation, age-old culture and science, that has shaped the landscape in the way we admire it today and, above all, has characterised the socio-economic aspect. In this unique setting stands Altesino. Name and address of producer/distributor: Altesino - Strada Provinciale del Brunello, 53024 Montalcino (SI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
