TASTING NOTES

Cantina Orsogna is a cooperative in the Abruzzo region, located in the town of Orsogna in the province of Chieti, in the Maiella National Park. Its activity started in 1972 and it can now count about 600 members across more than 1,200 hectares of vineyards, and a total of about 1.7 million bottles produced without including bulk wine. For several years, most of the production has been certified as organic, and a part is certified biodynamic. This makes it the largest Italian producer of this type of wine and one of the biggest producers worldwide. Ramoro's Pinot Grigio Metodo Ancestrale is a sparkling white wine from Abruzzo made from Pinot Grigio grapes according to what is known as the ancestral method. After harvest and the start of fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the must is refrigerated to interrupt the biochemical process that will resume once bottled. The wine obtained will then have a pleasant mousse. In the glass it is pale pink leaning towards coppery, with a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose it is delicate and pleasant, with initial notes of white peach and pink grapefruit followed by hints of small red berry fruit. In the mouth it is fine, subtle and lively thanks to its freshness and minerality. An everyday, versatile wine, it can be drunk as an aperitif or paired with platters of cured meats. THE WINERY

Orsogna

The Orsogna winery, founded in 1972, is one of the most important wineries in the production of Abruzzo wines. About 15 years ago, a separate winery was created with the Lunaria project with the aim of producing biodynamic wines that would best enhance the territory of the Chieti hills, within the Maiella Park. Spontaneous fermentation, special care for indigenous varieties and minimal intervention in the vineyard and wine cellar make the Lunaria project the largest Demeter project in Europe. The Orsogna vineyards extend over the territory of the municipality of the same name and some neighbouring villages. Here, traditional vines, such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano, lie beside indigenous specimens, including pecorino, primitivo, but also pinot grigio, from which an excellent spumante is made. The intense passion dedicated to working the land is transmitted in every grape, an expression of a production system that respects and emphasises the importance of the environment. At Cantina Orsogna, sulphites are used to a limited extent, calibrated according to the wine to be produced: lower for the Lunaria line, totally absent for the ZeroPuro line. Cantina Orsogna's wines, mostly red, are distinguished by their enviable character and precision and are loved by both the most refined and the simplest palates. Name and address of producer/distributor: Orsogna - Via Ortonese, 29, 66036 Orsogna (CH). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
