TASTING NOTES

Sancaba is derived from the acronym of the place of origin San Casciano dei Bagni, chosen by Carlo Franchetti where he found a Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) vineyard planted by the previous owner. Sancaba is made from 100% Pinot Nero grapes, with vines cultivated organically using only copper and sulphur treatments. The grapes ferment for 10 days in stainless steel tanks and partly in large wooden barrels. Ageing is done in large barrels and second-use barriques, followed by ageing in concrete tanks. Intense ruby red in the glass, it releases aromas of small berries, mountain flowers, graphite and spicy notes on the nose. On the palate, it is elegant and deep, with silky tannins. THE WINERY

Sancaba

The name of the winery derives from the acronym of the locality chosen by Carlo Franchetti (cousin and for years right-hand man of Andrea Franchetti the visionary of the Etna wine districts), San Casciano dei Bagni in the extreme south of the province of Siena a few kilometres from Lake Bolsena and the border between Lazio and Umbria. Incredible work in the vineyard and in the selection of the Pinot Noir clones best suited to the soil and climatic conditions allowed Carlo to create a small oenological masterpiece focused on Pinot Noir.
