TASTING NOTES

Passopisciaro nasce nel 2000 da un'intuizione di Andrea Franchetti, noto produttore e proprietario della Tenuta di Trinoro. La cantina si trova nel versante nord dell'Etna, più precisamente a Castiglione di Sicilia, a 1000 m di altitudine ed ottenuta dal restauro di un antico baglio. L'uva più coltivata è il Nerello Mascalese, che qui in base alle colate laviche e le varie altitudini va a formare diversi cru ed ha la peculiarità di essere a piede franco, ovvero non sono state mai intaccate dalla filossera; le uve alloctone più utilizzate invece sono Chardonnay, Petit Verdot e Cesanese d'Affile. I profili completamente diversi delle varie zone vitate, che coprono una superficie totale di 26 ettari compresa tra i 500 ed i 1000 m di altitudine, essendo diversi le une dalle altre prendono il nome di Contrade. Il Contrada G di Passopisciaro è un vino rosso siciliano a base di Nerello Mascalese, le cui uve provengono dalla contrada Guardiola, cru di viti tra i 70 ed i 100 anni di età e situate ad un'altezza tra gli 800 ed i 1000 m. Il mosto fermenta in acciaio prima di passare in grandi botti di rovere per la malolattica e l'affinamento di 18 mesi. Al calice si presenta di uno splendido rosso rubino; l'olfatto è veramente complesso, con un bouquet di fiori secchi, erbe aromatiche e balsamiche, per poi virare su piccoli frutti rossi e note minerali. Al palato è fresco e minerale, con morbidezza e sapidità ben bilanciate, con una straordinaria persistenza. Passopisciaro

Cantina Passopisciaro is one of the youngest and most enterprising wineries when it comes to winemaking in Sicily. It was founded recently, but at the hands of an experienced founder who realised the great potential of the lava soil for the production of the highest quality Sicilian wines. The intuition turned out to be right as the company managed to establish itself as a reference point for wine production in the area in a short time. The company is located on the slopes of Etna and has around forty hectares of vines divided over several districts, each with its own particularities and biodiversity. The microclimates and characteristics of each soil are carefully studied to maximise the qualities of the final product. The hectares are planted with various varieties of Cabernet and Merlot, Cesanese, Petit Verdot and Viognier, as well as a wide range of Pinot Noir.
