TASTING NOTES

Deltetto, a family of winemakers since the late 1800s, produced the first bottles of Barbera and Nebbiolo wines at a farmstead in the hamlet of ‘I Lioni’ on the steep hills of Roero. Roero and Langhe, the two production areas in Piedmont where the winery produces organically certified wines, have different geological origins which are reflected in the characteristics of the wines produced there. The Roero has an alluvial soil characterised by sandstone, rocks made up of sand and limestone. This soft, mineral-rich land is perfect for cultivating white and red grapes and for the production of aromatic wines which are complex yet extremely elegant at the same time. The Roero landscape is crisscrossed by a network of nature trails and is characterised by its cliffs: sandy canyons and gorges, peaks and craggy reliefs; extraordinary vantage points. Roero Riserva comes from the Braja vineyard, the name of which means ‘roar’ in the local dialect. More than any other, this wine combines the power and the elegance of the Nebbiolo grape, whose unique characteristics are enhanced by the sandy Roero soils in which it grows. Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, this wine undergoes a lengthy ageing period of 24 months in oak barrels and is then aged for another 12 months in the bottle. In colour, it is a deep ruby red. It boasts aromas of violet and ripe fruit, spices, and chocolate with a slightly balsamic finish. Its elegant tannin component and great structure make it suitable for long ageing. It is perfect for pairing with dishes based on meat and succulent roasts, and becomes truly amazing alongside a mixed fried platter, maybe in Piedmont style! Read more Read less
