We are in Menfi, on the east coast of Sicily between Lake Arancio, with deep soils rich in pebbles and an altitude of up to 400 metres above sea level. The Menfi DOC includes those wines that are produced in the area between 16 km inland from Sciacca and therefore, in this case, Fiano. We are located in the eastern part of the island, in the Tenuta Ulmo and Dispensa, one of the six estates that the company owns, designed to identify as many as six different areas of the island, following the "Planeta Terra" project which has allowed Planeta to embark on a path of sustainability from the production of the wine to the arrival on our tables. Planeta, a young winery which since 1995 has been able to quickly position itself among the most important wineries in Sicily and which has decided to deepen the experimentation of Fiano, starting in the 90s with the integration of this historic Campanian grape variety characteristic of Irpinia. The first vintage to be released on the label is 2000. The vinification of the monovarietal Fiano takes place 90% in stainless steel and 10% in 225 litre barriques, followed by a brief rest on the lees before bottling. The brightly coloured Fiano Menfi DOC stands out immediately on the nose with a fruit-infused note of grapefruit and mango followed by a hint of thyme. A harmonious mouthful and a velvety finish, a return of fruit reminiscent of a dried apricot. It is a fresh, drinkable wine, excellent as an aperitif with friends, and perfect when enjoyed with fish or shellfish. If left in the wine cellar, it can bring unexpected satisfaction over time.
