TASTING NOTES

The Barone Pizzini company is located in Provaglio d'Iseo, and founded in 1870, it has been a reference point in the production of wines in Franciacorta since the beginning. It was the first production site in Franciacorta to be certified organic according to European regulations in 1998. A far-sighted choice that certifies the willingness of this company to promote viticulture based on respect for and enhancement of biodiversity. As proof of this, every single plot of the 54 hectares owned by the company is vinified separately in order to always obtain wines with very specific characteristics, as each plot has its own soil, exposure and microclimate conditions. The same philosophy is adopted in the wine cellar where every room is designed and arranged to minimise environmental impact. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes used to make this Franciacorta “Naturae” come from 10 different vineyards, including the Pian delle Viti, the one with the highest altitude, which makes it possible to obtain grapes with the perfect characteristics for this wine. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand in order not to damage the grapes and to maintain the organoleptic profile. Once in the wine cellar, they are softly pressed and then undergo a second fermentation in the bottle and left to age on its own yeasts for 30-40 months depending on the base wine. As soon as it is poured into the glass what is immediately striking is the brightness and the very fine and elegant perlage. The colour is straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, a slightly lactic, pastry note alongside citrus hints and mineral hints, especially of chalk emerges. On the mouth, the very fine perlage make it creamy and enveloping. The finish is long and persistent. This Lombardy sparkling wine is perfect for a romantic dinner, perhaps as a pairing with fish and shellfish. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Barone Pizzini

Since 1870, Barone Pizzini has been the pioneer of Franciacorta in the quest for a pure wine, free of any residue other than natural. Sustainability has always characterised the management of the estate, which has become a perfect example of organic viticulture. Everything is managed to minimise environmental impact, maximising energy savings. Nourishment and plant protection are made only with substances of natural origin, and the architecture is designed to guarantee production that respects the environment. Barone Pizzini's land extends over 54 hectares, divided into 29 vineyards spread across Franciacorta. Each vineyard has its own characteristics, with an altitude of between 200 and 350 m above sea level, partially morainic soil, with some fluvioglacial deposition and different exposures. Of all the sparkling wines from Lombardy, the wines produced here also stand out thanks to the organic farming, which generates high-quality grapes that are very flavourful and have character. This is how the excellence of still and sparkling wines from this area is created. In fact, the winery boasts a solid tradition that can offer many of the area's typical wine varieties, such as Brut, Satén, Rosé and Dosaggio Zero, as well as Lombardy white wines such as Curtefranca. Name and address of producer/distributor: Barone Pizzini - Via S. Carlo, 14, 25050 Provaglio d'Iseo BS. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
