TASTING NOTES

Scarzello Giorgio e Figli is a family-owned winery located in the municipality of Barolo. It has been producing the great reds of Langhe for many years: the Barolo DOCG, Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore and Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, totalling about 25,000 bottles each year. Barolo Scarzello is made from selected grapes (100% Nebbiolo) that are harvested by hand, usually around the first week of October. After harvesting, the grapes are transported to the wine cellar to be pressed and destemmed. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers and is carried out with a long maceration on the skins, which can last up to 50 days. The wine is then racked and aged in 600-litre oak barrels for at least 24 months after which it is bottled and aged for a further 24 months. Deep garnet red in colour, with aromas of red berry fruits, cherry, wild strawberry and currants on the nose, with notes of tobacco, wax lacquer and spices giving way to hints of balsamic. In the mouth it is enveloping, balanced and full of velvety tannins and a good length. Perfect for Sunday lunch and paired with red meats; try with roast and grilled meats.
